No luck on the aurora last night, and it was so clear out, I could see the Milky Way. Kinda made up for it. This morning, I woke up to this from my window.
A whole lot of driving today, and the wind was so strong it was hard to stay on the road. However, John cheered me on. More foss (fosses? Fosi?). Lots more than I took pictures of.
We stopped at a little hamlet called Hof or Hofn. Nothing there except about 20 houses and the neatest little sod church and cemetery. Of course, the exposed parts of the church has siding now, but still unique, quaint, and in use.
Traveling on, and on, and on, and on, we saw a lot of beautiful scenery, and a lot of barren and dark land, and finally came to the glacier area and Diamond Beach. They have 2 permanent food trucks there, but only one was open, so we waited in a long line for my hotdog and Johns lobster roll. He said it was really good. My hotdog tasted good, but I had to give it a B- because I didn’t know what was in it—lamb, most likely. I try not to think about it.
On the drive back, we stopped a few times—once to get gas, and once at an unusual formation of columns of jointed lava. Known to be a place for elves and dwarves. Finally, some miscellaneous pictures.
Back in our room, we connected with the company and took covid tests via zoom. Took a while (30 minutes each) but we tested negative, so we can come home in a few days.
