Big Easy Morning

Good morning from Cafe De Munde.  I couldn't believe how many people were here, There was a line for take out all around the building, and a line for a table about a half block long.  We were lucky, we got there about 10 minutes before the long lines started, and waited about 30 seconds to find a table.  They were great!

After a quick breakfast, we walked and gawked on our way to the meeting place for our morning cemetery tour.

I like it.

Someone's entryway (viewed through the gate).  Is that intrusive?

Found site of MJ's face dive yesterday.  Looks worse in the daylight.  By the way, she feels pretty good today.

No explanation needed.

First ones in St. Louis Cathedral.  There was a line out in front, but we were walking by the side when someone unlocked the doors, so we had a good 5 minutes before anyone else came in.  Beautiful.

Beggar must be doing pretty well, as his dogs had some righteous kicks.

Next to him, this guy kept nodding off.  I fully expected him to take a MJ onto the sidewalk.

Inside St. Louis Cemetery #1, a variety of shots.

I laughed inside.

Nicholas Cage has too much money.  This is his tomb, ready.

Mississippi and Louisiana Highlights

John had a terrible time this morning, trying to dry his hair with an apparent defective hairdryer.  He couldn't understand why a nice hotel would have a dryer with such a short cord.  But he leaned over and got the job done.

Then, I showed him a miracle of modern ingenuity, a retractable cord.  Whodathunk!

The window of the hotel office was full of those little statues that dance/move/sway when the light hits them.  It bordered on creepy. They ere quiet last night when we arrived, but this morning they were all moving.  Weird.

Nice work at the rest stop

A very long and rickety looking train bridge.  I thought it was perhaps old and abandoned, but a train came across!

First rest stop in Louisiana, and what do we see!  What the heck is going on.  Again, all dancing to beat the band.  Made me dizzy,

Arrived, and checked into our very old hotel.  This is the pretty courtyard. Our room is not near it.

OK, our room is on the back side of the building with the stairs--on the first floor, though,

T & MJ's door.  I love it.  They are in the gated part.  Our room is on the street.  The music has just stopped.

We need these in Springfield.

Just some pretty sights as we walked the Quarter on our way to dinner.  Mardi Gras stuff still up in many places.

So THAT'S where he is!

It was in the 70's today.  He has the right idea.

Beads everywhere

Bling and googly eyes

Pretty, and pretty busy

Just a cool wall and a cool sign

Dinner

Dessert first.   Pecan pie and Coconut Creme.  T & MJ's.

Scallops & Filets
(Ours)

After dinner stroll back to our hotel.  This is one of the nice police officers that called the EMT's when MJ took a face dive onto the sidewalk

There was a hole in the sidewalk.  She checked out fine, and hopefully will only have a sore mouth.  No chipped teeth, nothing broken.  She must have partly landed on her purse.

See?  Nary a mark on her.

Exciting day.

p.s.  the hairdryer here has a visible long cord.

Started the day early, with a quick CT scan at the Martin Center.  Been having some foot problems, and I will apparently be having some surgery in the next month or so, for Sinus Tarsi Syndrome.  Anyway, still made it home this morning before taking grands to school, then cleaning a little for the house sitters/dog sitters. Then John had an appointment with his knee doctor, and they drained a big syringe full of fluid off his knee, then he got a cortisone shot. So he is good to go.  Old age ain't for sissies, as they say.

T worked this morning, so we left around 12:30.  We only stopped once, and made it to Mississippi around 6.  He was driving WAY too fast to get the other state signs--Arkansas, and Mississippi.  Perhaps he was in a hurry to get to a nice quiet room (John thinks it's his job to keep a running dialog so T won't sleep at the wheel).

Traffic just south of Memphis.

A BEAUTIFUL sunset tonight.

Checked into our room,

then went to Hernando's town square (lovely and vibrant), and had a wonderful dinner at a local spot.

Ready to visit somewhere new!

Road trip to the Big Easy

Yippee!  After several unsuccessful tries, we are going to New Orleans with our friends T & MJ, hereinafter referred to as T & MJ.  We are leaving Thursday, missing Mardi Gras, on purpose. Perhaps they didn't trust me not to try for as many beads as I could.

What shall we see?  Swamp monsters?  Hotel ghosts?  Voodoo Queens?  Hmmmm.

Who can ID this place?
